BLOG week 4

For your blog this week, think about the similarities and differences between how you evaluated yourself as a communicator and how others evaluated you. What is the one thing that surprised you the most? Why?



I tried to be open and honest with my self. I think it is very timley as I am about to take a new professional role on as a superviosr and I need to understand my people skills. I feel others evaluated me fair I am a person what you see is what you get. I feel I was evaluated the same as I co me across so I was not suprised as I am consistent with who I am.




What other insights about communication did you gain this week? Choose at least two to share with others through your blog and consider how each might inform your professional work and personal life.

Communication is 50 non verbal in terms of how we come across to others- That is one insight
I also would say do not assume about people let them tell you in terms of how they come across from there demanor.

Do you find yourself communicating differently with people from different groups and cultures?

I treat everyone I feel equally- My intention is to never treat anyone differently

When a strong accent or language barrier is inn place I can understand or communicate differenlty,  unles some one who is more fluent would jump right in.  I treat others a fair and just. I am  not perfect but I can be a decent person.


If yes, in what ways do you communicate differently?

I will ask a few times if I do not comprehend  then I can look up information, I need to understand slow down when I do not have an understanding of what me or others need to understand.

What do you think the characters' relationships are based on the ways in which they are communicating?
The show I choose was   Modern Family

It appears these are different types of friends or families.I see different ethnic groups and
age groups they live in dfferent homes

What are they feeling and expressing based on the nonverbal behavior you are observing?
They are expressing drama many hand expressions
They walk around and the clothes are very loose and colorful
Just the men and women in the show use hands and face expressions

Now, watch the show with the sound turned on.

 What assumptions did you make about the characters and plot based on the ways in which you interpreted the communication you observed?
All of the individuals are related- They are all family members when you hear the voices connections are made
that step family remarriage and extended

Would your assumptions have been more correct if you had been watching a show you know well?
I do not watch much tv based if they interacted more I may follow the story line with greater ease and connected the idea.

Someone who demonstrates competent communication within a particular context. What behaviors does this person exhibit that make him or her effective?


Bill Clinton is an individual who in my opnion is a very effective public speaker. When some one has the skill to speak up and out it is the ability to be likeable and personable. One needs to be able to come off as being someone people can relate to and that makes his style effective from my personal view.




Would you want to model some of your own communication behaviors after this person? Why or why not

I would love to be able to model my style after this fromer President. I think because when you can make people feel that you are confident in what you are saying and know what you are saying is credible . It also is important to come off in a style which people relate to that is what i like and want to mimic.
